Conserve

By R. Neal

People around the South and the rest of America are starting to feel a ripple effect from the Gulf Coast disaster. Increasing gas prices, impending shutdown of commercial air travel for lack of jet fuel, long lines at gas stations, and even some price gouging have gotten people's attention.

Here's an apparently un-American idea. Conserve. For one day. If possible, just stay home. Don't drive your car. Don't go to the mall. Let you kids ride the bus to school. Take the bus or the train to work. If each person did that for one day over the next few days, think how much fuel it could save.

OK, then.
