Anti-gay marriage amendment more important than Katrina recovery?

The Senate voted down the anti-gay marriage amendment yesterday, but it didn't go down without a fight:

"I don't believe there's any issue that's more important than this one," said Sen. David Vitter, a Louisiana Republican. "I think this debate is very healthy, and it's winning a lot of hearts and minds. I think we're going to show real progress."

Maybe it's time to start reclaiming hearts and minds and showing some real progress on the Katrina recovery effort? The disconnect from reality is truly astounding sometimes.
