Big Tobacco merger unites powerful NC political donors

July 25, 2014 - The deal joining North Carolina-based tobacco giants Reynolds American and Lorillard also unites two of the state's biggest corporate political contributors. Besides donating directly to candidates and committees, the companies have also been funneling money into outside spending groups active in the state's politics.

FLOC launches ambitious plans in tobacco fields

July 3, 2014 - This summer a team of 30 organizers with the Farm Labor Organizing Committee will be working to sign up 5,000 new union members in North Carolina's tobacco fields -- part of a plan to press Reynolds American to guarantee basic labor rights in its supply chain.
