Transgender people -- especially trans women of color -- face shockingly high levels of violence, and a disproportionate number of recent killings of transgender people took place in the South. But a new initiative is working for change.

After victories in district and appeals courts, they head to the Louisiana Supreme Court next week. Meanwhile, teachers in the charter schools that now control the city's public education system are beginning to unionize.
