June 20, 2008 - Today is Juneteenth, a holiday marking the day that, in 1865, slaves in Texas were finally told they were free -- two months and 10 days after Robert E. Lee surrendered to Ullyses S. Grant at Appomattox.

Bo Diddley R.I.P.

June 2, 2008 - The South has lost a cultural icon with rock star Bo Diddley's death today from heart failure at his home in Archer, Fla. He was 79.
